The Small Business Technology Show

'The Small Business Technology Show' is an IT Podcast for small business owners.

‘The Small Business Technology Show’ is an IT Podcast for business owners.

The Small Business Technology Show is an IT podcast hosted by Ben Love and Ben Dampney (otherwise known as B1 and B2), two Australian founders, entrepreneurs, business owners, IT guys, husbands and fathers, who obviously decided that they didn’t already have enough to do, so thought they’d start a podcast together. Some people just don’t know when enough’s enough, do they?

During the podcast we chat about the latest from the world of technology and business, with regular guests, case studies, tips, tricks and everything else in between to help you stay informed about technology trends impacting your business. There may also be a liberal dose of ‘dad jokes’ (don’t say you weren’t warned).

If you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur interested in staying up to date with the latest in relevant technology for your business then you’ll love this IT Podcast.

Episode 28 – Tech Today: 15 Minute Update

During Episode 28 we experimented with a shorter (15 min) episode and provided an update on the latest happenings in the tech world. Topics covered included:

  1. Telstra outage

Earlier this week Telstra’s mobile network experienced an outage and many customers were in disbelief that they could not gain access. The outage caused by human error lasted for 3-4 hours.

  1. Datto

Datto is a backup and disaster recovery cloud service that is new to Australia. It operates by replicating your files from the server to the Datto cloud. If the server in your office crashes there is a button that can be pressed to activate the backups and have your business up and running in a few minutes. Alternatively if your office and server are physically damaged (e.g.: floods, fire, etc.), the server can be rebooted in the cloud and run from there.

Services like this used to be expensive to run, but the great thing about Datto is that it’s now in an affordable price range.

  1. FitBit Charge HR

In episode 26: Christmas Gadget Gift Guide for Geeks, I (Ben Love) expressed how I really wanted to purchase the Fitbit Surge™ Fitness Super Watch. I actually ended up purchasing the FitBit Charge HR. There are only a few differences when comparing these two products. While the Charge HR does not have multi-sport, text notifications, music control or GPS tracking, it is smaller in shape and (in my opinion) much more enjoyable to wear.

  1. UBER Plugins with HipChat

Everyone knows UBER is an app that gets a car to your door in minutes, but not many people know HipChat. HipChat is one of a new breed of private group chat tools available. HipChat can be accessed from any device (yes, including smartphones) via either an installed app, or a web browser. What’s new is that you can now order an UBER directly from your HipChat app. Read more about this feature here.

  1. Office 365 – What is Clutter?

Clutter is best described as an artificial intelligence system that guesses which emails in your inbox are important to you or not. It is different from sorting Spam emails in that you can train it to filter out all your low priority emails into another folder. This is particularly useful if you receive a huge amount of emails per day and don’t have time to manually sort through your emails.

For instructions on how to train Clutter or enable/disable Clutter from your emails, read here.
